Join Corinne Diachuk, the organizers and community members @ Friends Quarters for an afternoon workshop and evening of music and play space to explore and practice The Art and Play of Consent!
Based on the work of Dr. Betty Martin, The Wheel of Consent is a model of communication for exploring the dynamics of giving and receiving and the importance of having clear agreements.
Culture is changing and now more than ever we absolutely need new language around all the nuances of consent that includes awareness of embodied and systemic oppressions, is trauma-sensitive, pleasure inclusive, and simple enough to teach to our youth as well as adults. We believe that this is a very important part of a much bigger set of new cultural skills absolutely needed in response to the #metoo movement, and we are excited to share it with you!
In this 6-hour class, we will:
* Learn how to listen to the messages of our bodies; to notice, value, trust, and communicate embodied yes, no, maybe, and I changed my mind.
* Cultivate awareness for how dynamics can impact our access to voice and choice
* Practice specific language tools for negotiating agreements.
* And… have some fun!
Playshop and space agreements:
This is NOT an explicitly sexual workshop. Anyone making overtly sexual comments, gestures or requests will be asked to leave.
The daytime playshop is a sober space – no drugs or alcohol will be allowed – you will be asked to leave.
There will be some touch practices you can opt into, but you will not have to do anything you don’t want to do.
This is a safe space to learn, practise, develop your personal power and build more deeply meaningful relationships based on this foundation of CONSENT, TRUST, LISTENING AND ACCEPTANCE. We will be expressing desires, allowing, practising giving and receiving no’s, yes, creating boundaries and agreements that has you living your best life ever with more fun and fulfillment.
More detailed group agreements will be sent out to participants the day before the event.

About our DJ Bubba Whispa: Darryl is a fountain of energy, so strap in and get ready to dance. Slinging all things funky, he also weaves live musicians into his sets with guitar, didgeridoo, and percussion joining him on stage. A big guy with an equally big heart and bag of tunes – Bubba Whispa never fails to bring the vibe.
